As you age you might feel various aches and pains here and there. Certainly no one wants to be dependent on others for their everyday chores or seek help in simple tasks like fixing breakfast or tying your shoe laces. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to be a person of their own? Add these simple habits in your everyday routine and witness how you can be a controller of your own body.

Keep your physical activity alive

Sometimes you haven’t even hit  45 yet and you start noticing your energy levels falling into the deepest black holes ever discovered. If you are concerned about your physical fitness, it is extremely important to have some kind of exercise in your life. As you hit 50 your metabolism doesn’t remain the same. That can be frustrating at times but you can keep that under control by brisk walking. It’s a form of cardiovascular training. Half an hour or 45 minutes of brisk walking can do wonders for you. It’s your routine cardio and it helps maintain flexibility and mobility in your joints. Or simply join one of the fitness courses available in gym near you such as the Metabolic Conditioning Workshop or Studio Cycling Workshop.

If you are 50 and you are hitting the gym at least 4 days in a week, nothing can be better than that. You can start off with some flexibility exercises and end with your weight training. Because your metabolism has slowed down to a speed of a sloth, there are many chances that you can accumulate a lot of fat in your body especially the belly area so to keep that belly fat away include a lot of muscle building exercises in your gym workout routine. Lift some heavy weights in the sets of 6 to 15 repetitions and show your metabolism who is the boss. It helps in keeping your heart healthy and strong.

If you wake up every morning and meditate and have a 30 minute session of yoga at home, there will be nothing that can stop you from being on your best throughout the day. It will improve your mental as well as physical health and keep your blood flowing. So replace your frequently used word ‘ouch’ with something positive right now.

Watch what you eat

Do not put any processed food in your body. Word! You’ll be slow poisoning yourself if your intake of processed food is reaching the top. Make sure your meals are high in fiber and protein. Here are some foods that can help improve various functions of your body.

  • Quinoa – Provides fiber and prevents diseases because of its anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Sesame oil – keeps your anxiety under control and strengthens your bones.
  • Dragon fruit – works as a great healing agent, benefits your immune system.
  • Turkey – prevents cancerous cells inside your body.
  • Beetroot – increases your blood count and keeps your blood pressure levels under control.

Women at the age of 50 require 1600, while men who are 50 require 2000 calories per day. Make the right choices to utilize those calories.

Socialise

Think of somewhere different to go every weekend. Take long strolls. Experience new things. As much fun as all of this sounds, to be honest you may just want to sit on a bench in a nearby park and watch people come and go. It’s very important to focus on your mental health as well as physical health. When you bring yourself to go out and socialise, you may be helping your physical self too. Keeping a positive approach towards life may just be the trick.
